The HP TouchSmart device can work both as a laptop as well as a tablet. It was the first consumer mini tablet pc which offered multi-touch facility. The latest HP TouchSmart tm2t has continued with the tradition, offering multi-touch facility in a very user friendly format with Windows 7.
It can function either as a laptop or as a tablet by rotating the screen by 180 degrees. The tablet mode can also be used to write on the screen with a digital pen. The laptop has premium Altec Lansing speakers which give excellent Dolby sound output.
The device is also equipped with a webcam and a fingerprint reader. Other facilities offered are an optional ATI with graphics that can be switched on while playing HD video games.

It runs Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit) operating system and is equipped with an Intel core i3 processor and with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5450 graphics processor. The screen measures 12.1 inch and has WXGA HD with LED bright display. The screen resolution is 1280x800. The TMT2T has 3GB DDR3 system memory and 5000 GB 7200 RPM SATA hard drive. It also comes with a wireless card and Bluetooth and a lightscribe 8X DVD RW. It also has a 5-in-1 digital media reader. Its dimensions are 8.82”x12.1”x1.23” and weighs about 4.65 lbs.
The Good
The new TouchSmart tm2 has a very thin chassis and is durable since it uses aluminum and magnesium alloys. The body has both glossy and matte finish in black. It has stylish etching on the palm-rest and also on the screen lid. The use of the new Intel core series processors makes the tm2 thinner but at the same time prevents it from becoming very hot.
The Bad
The TouchSmart tm2 is a little heavy to carry around in the tablet mode. The display screen is slightly grainy. The screen is a bit difficult to read in sunlight and lighted places. Sometimes it becomes very hard to read due to the inversion of the colors at sharp vertical angles.
